– Continue Reading BelowHelena Christensen has had a career that most models can only fantasize about, having worked with the likes of Patrick Demarchelier, Mario Testino, and Herb Ritts. And yet, the Danish supe thinks she might have just landed the ultimate gig with her new appointment as The Luxury Collection’s global explorer. “Being a global explorer in any way is the ultimate fantasy of my dream life,” Christensen tells “We really have such a short time on earth and I want to be able to visit every place on my list. Or, at least try to.”Tomorrow night, at New York’s Bleecker Street Arts Club, she will unveil her debut efforts in her new role—a photo exhibition entitled “Peru: A Visual Journey”. We caught up with Christensen before the private opening to hear about her globetrotting adventures, her photography schooling from the top fashion lensmen, and find out what’s next.I know you have been shooting for a long time but I’m curious, did you ever have any formal photography training? No canadagooseoutlets , not officially. When I started taking pictures in my late teens, I was dating a photographer who taught me a lot about working a camera. We traveled around the world for half a year just taking pictures. That was a very good beginning to a photography education. But, other than that, I just learned from the photographers I was shooting with. I don’t think I could have had better teachers.Related: Ten Questions With Helena ChristensenHelena Christensen – Continue Reading BelowWhat’s some of the most memorable photography advice you learned from Demarchelier, Ritts, etc.?They all had some sort of influence on me. It was Demarchelier who said I had a good eye and I had to keep shooting. Herb Ritts showed me a lot about light. He was the master of using beautiful light and making the body. Testino taught me a lot about how to deal with your subjects. He is so involved and makes everyone feel so good. I have worked with him since I was like 20 and he has always been a great mentor to me. I am so happy that I ended up loving photography so much. I never really thought it would be an actual career and I am so happy it turned out that way. What were some of the highlights of your journey to Peru for your newest show?Everything. I went with my mother (who is Peruvian), and even though I spent my childhood there, we went to places we had never been. This was really my first trip there through a tourist’s eye.Related: Exclusive Video: Behind the Scenes with Helena Christensen for NYDJHelena Christensen – Continue Reading Below – Continue Reading BelowFrom a photography perspective, what struck you most?We went to a place called the Sacred Valley and the beauty there was just mesmerizing. It is hard to take photos there because it’s so easy to take photos. You can point at everything and you don’t even have to look at the viewfinder. Whatever you point and shoot at, it’s amazing. I wanted to take pictures that were a little different and unusual.I noticed you also have a lot of beautiful shots of peoples’ clothing…You can’t get around those outfits. All these gorgeous little kids and they are wearing really bright, beautiful colors and they are all carrying like a newborn puppy or a lamb or something. That is just too cute, I can’t take it. It was like, ‘Don’t even come near me because I am not going to photograph that.’ You just want to cry watching that , it’s so beautiful. You have traveled the world as a model and photographer. Where haven’t you been that you are dying to go?I haven’t been to Vietnam or Iceland. Those are two countries I would love to visit for sure. The people, the art, the music scene, and not to forget the nature… it probably doesn’t get more visually mind blowing than a country like Vietnam. To be able to be a gypsy and travel, it’s the ultimate life form for me.”Peru: A Visual Journey” is on display at the Bleecker Street Arts Club through February 15.Helena ChristensenPhoto: Courtesy of Helena Christensen
